The hadith, the sayings attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, form a sacred literature that, for the Muslims, ranks second in importance only to the Qur’an. The author, Muhammad Zubayr Siddiqi, was a Professor of Islamic Culture at the University of Calcutta.
