5 Healing Books Every Muslimah Needs to Read

Fauwaz Ahmad |

Living in the 21st Century with all its distractions vying for our attention can make it hard for us to sit down and reflect on our spirituality and wellbeing. Being a Muslimah, in particular, provides a number of unique challenges and pressures that impact the ways our sisters navigate the modern world.

While it’s impossible to combat and address the pertinent issues of our community and broader society, it can help to have a good book to relieve our stress and comfort our hearts in a way that also nurtures our Islamic faith. As a start, here are 5 healing books sisters can read to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul.

Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mohaged

A must-read for every Muslimah from all walks of life.

Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mohaged is about freeing the heart from heartbreak and disappointment. More than just a self-help book, it’s a book that awakens the heart and provides a new perspective on love, loss, happiness, and pain.

It’s a manual of sorts about the journey of the heart in and out of the ocean of this life and teaches readers how to live in this life without allowing life to own you. It weaves a journey of redemption, hope and renewal. It shows us that every heart can heal, and each moment is created to bring us closer to that transformative return.

Many of us live our lives, entrapped by the same repeated patterns of heartbreak and disappointment. That’s why Reclaim Your Heart teaches us to find that awakening – that moment when everything stops and suddenly looks different – and return to the better, truer, and freer version of ourselves.

Healing the Emptiness: A guide to emotional and spiritual well-being by Yasmin Mogahed

A step-by-step guide to healing your unique emptiness.

Healing the Emptiness by Yasmin Mogahed is about healing our emptiness and mending our broken parts through nurturing emotional and spiritual well-being.

Many of us have points in our lives where we feel as though we lost our way. Moments where we have given up hope and see no way out of our pain, problems and failures. Sometimes, we feel this way for years, letting the shame and self-hatred entrap us and force us to live in deep emptiness, despite worldly success.

But, despite it all, there is always hope – there is always a road back. Just as we were sent on this worldly journey with the capacity to fall, we were also given the capacity to rise. When we bleed, we also heal. We cope. We survive. We even thrive through the storms.

Allah (SWT) gave each and every one of us the potential to see through the darkness and rise through the cold. And this book is here to remind us that even if we break again and again, we also can heal again and again and become even more beautiful.

The Quran

Our perfect and comprehensive guide to life at present, and in the hereafter.

Saving the best for last, having a Quran is essential for any Muslim. It is our holy book where we seek knowledge and guidance in all aspects of our lives and carry ourselves in a way that is pleasing to our Creator.

As Allah (SWT) has willed it, the core text and meaning of the Quran in Arabic have remained unchanged for centuries. But it is also supplemented by a diverse range of beautifully designed covers, sizes and translations that make it more accessible for Muslims around the world.

There are particular copies of the Quran that are famous as well. The swearing-in of Australia’s first Muslim Members of Parliament, Hon Ed Husic MP and Hon Anne Aly MP, used a dusty pink Quran, gifted to them by Hajjeh Maha Abdo, CEO of Muslim Women Australia.

You can get the famous pink Quran here, as well as copies of the Quran with other beautiful cover designs here.
