Description

Your Lord Has Not Forsaken You - Addressing the Impact of Trauma on Faith

Is a book that sheds light on trauma's effects, which are more common than we think. In fact, over half of our friends, colleagues, and family members may have already experienced traumatic events in their lives, and perhaps even you have too. Trauma can remain unnoticed in our bodies for years or even decades, draining our energy, happiness, and faith.

However, no matter how much pain or numbness we feel, Allah (Swt) is always there for us. This book aims to help us understand trauma and its profound effects on our body, mind, and soul. By recognizing how trauma leads to cognitive biases and doubts around faith, we can learn to overcome these roadblocks and find contentment.

The book covers an in-depth examination of the al-Duha Approach, which Allah used to relieve Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and how it provides a framework for Islamic psychology today. It also includes a coping skills library with clinically proven exercises that can help alleviate mental health struggles. Furthermore, there are plenty of case studies to illustrate how cognitive distortions show up in real-life situations and how to overcome them.

The authors, Najwa Awad and Sarah Sultan are both experienced psychotherapists who are passionate about helping Muslims heal, grow and thrive after adversity. Najwa Awad has over a decade of experience providing online and in-person counselling to children, adults, and families at her practice, Amanah Family Counseling. Sarah Sultan is a licensed professional counsellor with almost 10 years of therapy practice and also an instructor at Mishkah University, where she teaches the intersections between Islam, psychology, and counselling.

Overall, the book is colourful, insightful, and practical.
