At that time, Makkah was full of idols that the Arabs worshipped. When the Prophet's (ﷺ) mother gave birth to him, a light illuminated the house as well as the palaces of Syria. When he was born, his grandfather brought him to the Ka'bah; he invoked Allah and thanked Him. He chose for him the name Muhammad.
